The Philadelphia Flyers will have representatives on three of the four teams vying for medals in tonight’s World Junior Championship action. Tournament standout Porter Martone, along with Jett Luchanko, will represent Canada against Heikki Ruohonen and Max Westergard’s Finland squad in the Bronze Medal game before Jack Berglund captains Sweden against Czechia in the Gold Medal game. Shane Vansaghi’s Team USA won’t be participating, but we’ll discuss him as well.

The Philadelphia Flyers opened up a 3-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the first period, highlighted by Denver Barkey’s first career goal. But it’s never easy against Connor McDavid & Co. and the Best Player in the World extended his point streak to 15 games with his customary two points. But it was Dan Vladar and the Flyers defense that choked the Edmonton firepower enough to get out of Edmonton with a well-earned regulation win.

FINALLY! The Philadelphia Flyers’ long national nightmare is over, as the Orange and Black earned a regulation win for the first time since December 9.

Nikita Grebenkin opened the scoring for the Flyers late in the second, and goals from Grundstrom, Dvorak, Tippett, and Michkov sealed the victory for the Flyguys.

What a game...of course Artemi Panarin opened up the scoring late in the first, but then rookie Denver Barkey scored 2 points in 2 shifts, giving Sam Ersson and the Flyers a much-needed 3-1 lead.

However, the Orange and Black blew the lead once again, and couldn't convert on two power plays in overtime. Panarin's 2 goals, Flyers' killer Mika Zibanejad's lone goal, and a shutout in the shootout sealed the New York Rangers' victory.

Despite a highlight reel assist by Trevor Zegras and a 2-1 lead with under five minutes remaining in the second period, the Philadelphia Flyers choked away a game after dominating most of the first 30 minutes. It happened! After months of rumors, the Vancouver Canucks sent star defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren, and a 2026 first-round pick.

The Philadelphia Flyers have not beaten the Carolina Hurricanes in South Philly since March 5, 2020, having dropped eight straight to Rod Brind’Amour’s squad heading into this game. The NHL-best Colorado Avalanche got the best of Sam Ersson, as goals from Brent Burns, Brock Nelson, and Valeri Nichuskin secured the victory for the Avs over the Philadelphia Flyers. 

Sean Couturier and Nick Seeler both had milestones for the Orange and Black, playing in their 900th and 400th career games respectively, and Sean Couturier did open the scoring for the game early in the 1st.

The Philadelphia Flyers scored first for the first time in ten games, and opened up a 3-0 lead by the time 22 minutes had elapsed, on goals from Tyson Foerster, Sean Couturier and Trevor Zegras. This was as low-event as a game could be in terms of highlights. Nic Deslauriers’ first period fight was the only thing that registered as a Philadelphia “highlight” in the opening 40 minutes. Sam Ersson battled through a sleepy game with a solid-enough outing against the Lightning, but with no help from Trevor Zegras, Matvei Michkov or Tyson Foerster, this was one of those games that brings Orange & Black expectations down to earth.

WHAT A NIGHT IN SOUTH PHILLY! After allowing the first goal for the seventh straight game the Philadelphia Flyers caught fire, scoring four goals in the first period, including 3 in 26 seconds and 2 by Tyson Foerster within 17 seconds to open up a big lead. From there, Dan Vladar was solid, Bobby Brink and Trevor Zegras added some insurance goals, and the Flyers put a big number up on one of the Eastern Conference’s best teams.

Did you think it was possible for a Philadelphia Flyers game to end in regulation? LOL. Of course the Flyers went to overtime for the 4th time in 5 games and 9th time in 19 overall. Once again, the Orange & Black started slow, falling behind 2-0 in the first. Fortunately, Dan Vladar was excellent, allowing the comeback. Rodrigo Abols and Tyson Foerster scored to tie the game at two and Travis Sanheim scored the winner to send the Philly faithful home happy!

All the talk on social media this weekend was about the perceived criticism by Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier directed towards Matvei Michkov in Saturday’s postgame scrum. Coots mentioned Michkov “playing the right way” and it benefitting the team, seemingly complimenting the 20-year-old sophomore, but many Flyers fans took it as a shot at the franchise’s future cornerstone.

It was an optional practice today at Voorhees for the Philadelphia Flyers, and PHLY Sports' very own Charlie O'Connor was on the scene to report on the latest. Aleksei Kolosov was sent down to the AHL in lieu of Sam Ersson returning to the roster after missing the last few games, and Tyson Foerster was spotted skating on the ice today before practice, signaling a return is near.

The puck dropped on the NHL season on October 7th. One month later, the Philadelphia Flyers are in an Eastern Conference playoff spot! Dan Vladar has been mostly very good, Trevor Zegras looks like a star, Cam York, Noah Cates, Bobby Brink and Tyson Foerster (prior to the injury) all look like they’re taking steps in their careers, and pretty much all is well for Rick Tocchet’s squad. The game started out as a shooting gallery in Philadelphia’s end, with only Dan Vladar seemingly awake for the first 15 minutes or so of the first period. Vladar surrendered one that ping-ponged off 2 men in front, but was the sole reason the Flyers were in the game.

From there, Matvei Michkov and Noah Cates tallied goals and the Flyers earned a hard-fought victory.

Trevor Zegras has been a revelation to start his first season in Philadelphia, leading the team in assists, points and power play points through the team’s first 13 games. The Flyers power play, thanks largely to the addition of Zegras, is over 20% and looks greatly improved from the group that has run under 14% in the previous 4 seasons.

What a wild freakin’ game. The Philadelphia Flyers opened up a 3-0 lead in the first period, getting 2 points from Bobby Brink, Trevor Zegras and Cam York. And then they gave up 4 in the second, only for Nikita Grebenkin to tie the game and force overtime in the 3rd.

The Flyers won in a shootout thanks to Dan Vladar and the magic of Zegras, and that was ridiculous.

What a slog of a game. After a 3-shot first period for the Philadelphia Flyers, things didn’t get much better over the following 40 minutes, and the Flyers dropped a home game to the NHL’s last place Calgary Flames.

Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice for the Flames, and Dustin Wolf was up to the task on the few occasions the Flyers got anything through to him, as Matvei Michkov, Owen Tippett and basically every other forward was invisible for pretty much the entire game.

Matvei Michkov & Trevor Zegras turned in their best performances of the young season on Thursday night, combining for 2 goals and 3 assists in a game that saw Sean Couturier leave with what may be an arm injury after the first period.

In what has become a habit for the new Flyers goaltender, Dan Vladar was very strong once again, especially through the first 30 minutes when the Flyers didn’t seem to have the jump they’ve had recently.

The Philadelphia Flyers mostly outplayed the Pittsburgh Penguins, who’d won 7 of their first 10 entering tonight. Bobby Brink stood out with a multi-point night, as did the team’s speed and possession overall. Unfortunately, Sidney Crosby got a Crosby Bounce in the third to tie the game and we got sent to OT because of a strong effort from Artus Silovs, and some typical Crosby nonsense.

The Philadelphia Flyers came out on fire early in the first period, putting a ton of pressure on the Ottawa Senators in the opening minutes, including Tyson Foerster beating Linus Ullmark 29 seconds after puck drop to put the Flyguys up 1-0. Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere opened up some space under the salary cap on Sunday, trading the long-injured Ryan Ellis’ contract to the San Jose Sharks for Carl Grundstrom & Artem Guryev. Neither player should play much of a role in Orange & Black, but the move does free up the LTIR common drum that was Ryan Ellis.

The Philadelphia Flyers second preseason game wasn’t nearly as exciting (or long) as the first, as they went into Montreal on Tuesday night, gave up a goal to Cole Caufield in the opening minute and trailed the rest of the way in a 4-2 loss.
