Joshua 1

Philippians 4:1-8, Matthew 11:28-30

The book of Philippians has a common theme of Joy throughout the book.  We all face anxiety and worry in this life but what do we do when we experience those things. Paul instructed the church at Philippi on how to handle those emotions in chapter 4.

As Christians we can tend to get fascinated in learning about the end times which is a good thing.  However, we can sometimes focus on the wrong things and instead we need to know what we are to do while we are waiting for the Lord's return.  Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 3 what we are to do while we are waiting.  

Powerful message on dying to self and living for Jesus.

In Acts 19 the Apostle Paul makes a return trip to Ephesus and encounters twelve disciples where he asks them if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed.  I believe if the Apostle Paul were here today he would ask that same question of some Christians today.  There was something lacking in the disciples that led to that question being asked.  Oftentimes there are Christians who don't have an understanding of the Holy Spirit and His role in the life of the believer.  While the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not necessary for salvation, it is needed to b...

Jeremiah 38

When we feel like we hit rock bottom we can handle it in one of three ways.  We take a look at Jeremiah 38 and see that we can either stand in faith, fight, or give up.  As believers we should only do one of the three. 

This week we discuss how you can be in the will of God and opposition still come to make you feel like you hit rock bottom.  Despite the opposition we face we can look at the example of Paul and Silas in Acts 16 and in the moments of trials we can pray and praise.  

There may have been a time or two in our lives we felt like we hit rock bottom.  What do we do when we hit rock bottom?  There is always hope because as Jesus prayed for Peter that his faith would not fail him, Jesus has prayed for us.  Peter may have faltered, but his faith did not fail him.  There is a sifting we all will go through but we must seek the Lord during that sifting.

John 6 is a chapter that can be overlooked when reading the dialogue between Jesus and the disciples.  Jesus had more than twelve disciples and John 6:66 tells us that "many" walked away and walked with Him no more.  How different is the interaction in John 6 in comparison to the modern culture of the church.  Many followed Jesus for what He could do for them, but Jesus wanted them to enter into communion with Him. Last week we talked about how Jesus described the times of the end of the age where events will take place.  This week we go over how Paul describes the condition of man in the last days.  We have been in the last days since Christ's ascension, but perilous times happen when the the condition of man grows worse.  We are seeing the hearts of man played out right before our eyes as Paul described in 2 Timothy 3.  Even though man may get selfish we as the church must remain in love.

There are different natural disasters and events taking place in our country and throughout the world.  As Christians we can find ourselves getting alarmed or frightened by the things we see or hear about, but Jesus tells us to not be troubled.  Christ warned us that these things would happen in the last days.  This message is a reminder as God's children to not be troubled.

In 2 Corinthians 5:7 Paul tells the church in Corinth that despite all the obstacles they faced in their journey to minister the Gospel they could keep going because they were walking by faith and not by sight.  Walking by sight is the opposite of walking by faith. When we walk by sight we are not pleasing to God.  10 of the 12 spies walked by sight but despite getting ready to be stoned Joshua and Caleb walked by faith.  Peter walked by sight when he sunk after he walked on water.  Christians tend to want to relate to Joshua and Caleb or Pete...

Unfortunately, fear seems to be considered a sin among Christians which causes some to lie about the fear they experience.  We are not to embrace fear, but we don't ignore it either.  Many great people in the Bible such as Moses, Daniel, Joshua, David, and Paul experienced fear.  Yet, some in the church are frowned upon when they admit they experience fear.  Fear is NOT the opposite of faith, but it can be a by product of what is the opposite of faith.  In this message we look at fear and how the Bible lets us know that there is a...

This week we continue our teaching on faith and how it is a requirement as believers for us to be in faith and to trust the Lord.  God doesn't require us to be perfect, but He requires us to be in faith.  Some may be weaker in their faith, but those who are still must be in faith.

This week we continue a teaching that started during our midweek Bible study on Faith.  In order to please God we have to stand in faith.  In order to stand in faith we may have to separate from some people to include other believers if they try and dissuade us from being in faith.

This week we take a look at Zerubbabel and how God sent a word to encourage him through the prophet Zechariah.  Like Israel and Zerubbabel we often times face enemy opposition which can cause discouragement or we can become indifferent to the assignment God is calling us to do, but we must understand it is not by might nor by power, but by the Lord's Spirit that we will do what He is calling us to do.  No matter how many natural resources or people we have none of it matters if it is not driven by the Holy Sp...

This week we discuss how we have to renew our minds as we keep up with the Holy Spirit.  There are three types of people the person who is not born again, the spiritually mature Christian, and the carnal Christian.  We have to look at which one we relate to.  We tend to celebrate people who are carnal Christians but that was not something to be proud of when we read the Bible.  What will help us to go from being a carnal Christian to a spiritually mature Christian is keeping up with the Holy Spirit and renewing our soul...

This week we talk about how God will allow His children to experience the wilderness, trials, and tribulations because He loves us and is testing us.  Even though it may feel like we don't want to go through it, we want to give up, or we made a mistake we should understand according to the Bible we are right where God wants us to be.  The Holy Spirit will lead us into the wilderness and is right there with us even though it may feel like He is not with us.

When ducks are first born they go through a process called imprinting that teaches the duck how to follow the adult duck's movement and sound.  When a person becomes born again we go through an imprinting process with the Holy Spirit and we have to learn to keep up with Him.  Unlike ducks the imprinting process of a believer never ends as long as we are in this world.  We have to learn the voice of the Holy Spirit and He is there to guide us in different ways to get us to become more Christ like if we lea...

Truth and Love may not always be accepted by those who are unsaved as well as those who believe God accepts them despite their behavior.  The life of a Christian is a marathon and is not an easy walk in this world.  Truth and Love may come in different tones but they should always have the same note.  Matthew 11:1-19, Isaiah 35:5-6, 2 Thessalonians 2:8-12

Jesus is risen!  As Christians we need to realize that we died with Christ and we live with Him.  There is power in the resurrection of Jesus not just for the future, but in the present.  We do not fear death, sickness, persecutions, or tragedies in this life because we are alive in Christ Jesus and dead to our old selves.

Jesus is the head and we are the body.  If Jesus said His Kingdom is not of this world, then our Kingdom should not be of this world.  The world's kingdom focuses on power, authoritarian rule, money, prestige, and other things however, Jesus said His Kingdom is based on truth.

As Christians we cannot have truth and no love nor can we have love and no truth, but we must have both.  We cannot have partial truth and partial love.  The truth and love we are supposed to have must be based on what the Bible says.  The world's truth and love is conditional, produces conflict, and is confrontational.

This week we take a look at Gideon a person who had no experience in war, but God called him to lead Israel as a Judge and into battle against their enemies.  Gideon was able to lead Israel because the Lord was with him.  God was patient with Gideon and helped him grow into the person to be able to lead Israel in the time of their need.

This week we learn about God being with Joshua.  In studying the promotion of Joshua we learn that a person may be strong in faith in one area, but that doesn't mean they will be strong in faith in another area.  After the death of Moses Joshua became fearful and God intervened and came to encourage him.

This week we take a look at how God was with Joseph.  Sometimes we can feel like we are doing everything right and things still come against us.  It doesn't mean the Lord is not with us, but He in turn is with us while we are going through the storm and the hardships in life.  As long as we are in this fallen world we will face opposition.  Joseph faced rejection throughout his life even though it appears he did everything the right way.  On this side of the cross we can see that God was with Joseph, but w...

Fear, worry, and anxiousness will come against us, but that is not the sin.  What do we do when those feelings and emotions come upon us?  
2 Chronicles 20 gives us an example on what we should do when we become fearful or worried about a situation.  God is with us just like He was with King Jehoshaphat. Philippians 4, Matthew 28:16-20

God calls His children to things that may seem impossible for us, but He wants us to know that He is with us.  It is not about us and what we cannot do, but it is about what God can do through us.

Ephesians 4 tells us that the Lord has given gifts unto men and they are gifts that are appointed and ordained by the Lord.  There is a purpose for these gifts and that purpose is described by the Apostle Paul.  Oftentimes Christians believe the purpose of the church is evangelism, but let's see what the Bible says.  Evangelism is not the purpose of the church by is a by product of a healthy church.

The Bible shows that we are going to be imitators.  When we hear the word imitator as a Christian we automatically think about being imitators of Christ which the Bible clearly shows that is Who we are to imitate.  The Bible also lets us know that we will be imitators of those who have gone before us.  We as Believers in Christ should be imitators of Christians who are spiritual and mature and not those who are carnal and immature.

In Jesus' first coming he came as a Savior, but in His second coming He will return as Judge.  Oftentimes people will acknowledge that Jesus existed and was a good man, but Jesus was more than just a man He was the Christ.  During His first coming people saw Jesus veiled in human flesh, but one day Jesus will be seen in His glorified state and there will be no where to run or hide for those who names are not written in the book of life. 

From Matthew 24 Jesus is preparing His disciples for His departure.  With the parable of the Ten Virgins at the beginning of Matthew 25 Jesus warns the disciples to be ready.  In the parable of the talents Jesus shows what readiness is.  As a group the servants did well as they went from 8 talents to 15 talents but it is important to note that Jesus judged each of them individually.

In the parable of the ten virgins Jesus mentions there are five wise and five foolish.  All ten virgins are representatives of the church and we as individual Christians have to ask if we are wise or foolish.  Ultimately the wise were prepared for the Lord's return while the foolish were not ready.  Unfortunately there are many people attending church weekly who think they are ready for the Lord's return but they are in fact not ready.    Jesus instructs us to watch and be ready no matter how long it takes before His return because none of us knows the d...

Romans 15:4 says for whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the [a]patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.  We can learn from the mistakes that Israel made with their discouragement and lack of trust in God.  Numbers 33 tells us Israel left Egypt in boldness but along the way they started looking at things with their eyes and not by faith.  It was their lack of trust that  caused them to wonder in the wilderness for 40 years.  People think that fear is the opposite of faith but the Bible shows that walki...
