Lewis Black's Rantcast

Lewis had an entire show planned for this first Rantcast of 2026 but he woke up Saturday morning to record and things didn't go as planned because our President decided it was a really great time to invade a sovereign nation and kidnap its leader. Needless to say all the plans for this episode went out the window.

And in news that's less geopolitical in nature, Lewis will record his first ever live Rantcast in his home of New York City. Next Thursday, January 15th he will leave the confines of his home public access studio and record...

It’s the final Rantcast of 2025 and Lewis reflects on the past year. Mostly attributing it to the political absurdity that’s plagued us and continues to plague us. Lewis also remembers two colleagues who recently passed from his drama school days. And he’d be remiss to leave you without a few fresh rants for you to ring in the new year.

The title says it all. The vast food insecurity that the children in our country is flat out appalling. And while we’re in the middle of a government shutdown, the debate over whether to continue to support SNAP benefits should not be an issue at all. Lewis is back from his week-long comedy curation in upstate New York where he spent his 4th of July performing live. Well, this past week was event-filled. Absolutely insane events like The Boss’ birthday parade thinly veiled as a celebration of America’s military. While that event appeared to be a dud, it still positioned our military personnel as Toy Soldiers. If that wasn’t enough to infuriate you Toy Soldiers were also being utilized in LA to settle non-existent unrest. We have ourselves a snappy title for snappy times. This past week we caught ourselves in the middle of the Donald Trump/Elon Musk falling out. That’s right two grown men of unimaginable privilege calling each other names in public. Lewis recaps his trip out West to attend The Emmy Awards for the first time in 20 years. Lewis was just in Las Vegas performing and while the shows went great, the flight home was anything but. It was as he described it as one of the worst travel experiences of his life. Which is saying a lot for someone whose made a living on the road traveling for decades. This trek included heavy storms, grounded planes, storms, boarding planes, de-boarding planes, and Buffalo. And somewhere in the midst of the chaos he got a buffalo chicken wing omelet, so perhaps it wasn't all bad?

The press is having a field day with our candidates in a Presidential election that costs too much money. But it’s also going on for too long and leaking into a previously-declared politics-free summer. What a wild week, so much has happened in the world. One thing is enough to make your ears bleed, but we in the US are dealing with more than one thing. To sum it all up, we have people who can't say the truth while others need to come to grips with it. The debates, SCOTUS decisions, re-elections, church and state, it all seemed to come to a head this week, time to unpack it all.

Lewis is headed overseas, but he left the fans with a stellar episode of The Rantcast. Like many of you, he's having a hard time understanding why a South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem bragged about her animal abuse, why NYC mayor Eric Adams is an idiot, the college campus protests, and ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. It's enraging for all. But perhaps the silver lining of all this might be the promising season of Baltimore Orioles and their hopes to restore some sanity for Lewis this summer.

Being born and raised in the greater Baltimore area, the news on the Francis Scott Key bridge collapse elicits Lewis laments on how it should be repaired. It also appears the level of satire have reached an all-time high between Donald Trump deciding to become a bible salesman and Alabama doing away with diversity programs in its universities. But it doesn’t end there as the Supreme Court is currently hearing arguments over mifepristone and it just reminds Lewis that being a lawyer can sometimes make your head spin. How's your bracket doing? The NCAA College Basketball tournament is Lewis' favorite sporting event of the year. It also serves as a good distraction from the lunacy of the day. A Spring that doesn't seem to have sprung yet. An election cycle that goes on and on. A former President's many, many days in court. Well, we turned the clocks forward an hour and with it comes the annual debate about whether Daylight Savings time is a good idea or not. With both sides of the argument pulling their annual selective amnesia about the event. March also marks the start of The NCAA College Basketball Tournament which brings both great joy and a great distraction to Lewis. From what? Well, take your pick – could be GOP’s wild response to the State of the Union, Missouri finally realizing it’s 2024, the ongoing Middle East conflict or even silly things...

This week on the podcast Lewis ponders what would happen if we all just collectively decided not to vote in the 2024 Presidential Election. This is because of a group of people that just don't feel energized by this year being a rematch of the 2020 election. In one corner a probably insurrectionist and in the other a person who might've done some good but no one seems to hear him. But the lethargy doesn't seem to end with the White House as most of Congress seems to be running in the opposite direction of progress.

The world lost the comic voice of Richard Lewis this week. Lewis takes a moment to acknowledge the loss of a comedy legend. The national news is still nonsense as what election season wouldn't be complete without another border crisis. Dick for sure! Many of you might’ve heard that our former leader recently declared he’d be a dictator for just the first day in office and that just seems silly that some people of both his party and the United States are just okay with that idea. Lewis isn’t one of those people and he’s tired of it. This week the news ranges from angry to irate and Lewis speaks for most of us when he declares that he’s sick and tire of being sick and tired.
