We are starting a new series for the Spring of 2026, and it's a little new to us!

Usually, we walk through books of the Bible. However, this spring we wanted to try something different. We asked the youth to submit questions that they'd like to have answered on a Wednesday night, and boy did they deliver!

So now, instead of doing a book, we are going to be answering 13 questions that the youth have submitted to talk about at youth group. And we are starting off with a doozy:

Jude has been making the same point with different nuances for the past few weeks: God will judge ungodly teachers.

This week is no different, as he makes a reference to the Book of Enoch. Just like with his other references, he adds nuance to this one as well. He says that one of the things that ungodly teachers will do is "grumble and complain".

Often times, you don't know it until it's too late...

We are beginning our bonus series through the 2025/2026 school year: A Moment for the Martyrs!

Once (or sometimes maybe twice) a month we will be telling the story of a different martyr in Christian history. If you don't know what a martyr is, it is someone who has lost their life because of their testimony about Jesus.

We're back at it again with a series through the letter of Jude!

Did you even know that there is a book in the Bible entitled "Jude"? I wouldn't blame you if you didn't. It's only 25 verses long, and not many people talk about it! But Jude is a really intriguing "book" (it's actually a "letter!). It is only 25 verses long, yet it's absolutely stuffed to the brim with Old Testament references. It also quotes two books that ARE NOT in the Bible, but it certainly seems like Jude is quoting them as if they are scripture. And...

Alas, we have reached the final set of "7's" in Revelation: the 7 bowls of God's wrath!

We've been operating under the idea that each set of 7 (7 seals, 7 trumpets, 7 signs, and 7 bowls) are all talking about the same period of time from different perspectives. If someone were to ask me, "what is the MOST debated part of the book of Revelation?", I would be very tempted to say Revelation 12-14.

Why Revelation 12-14? Because it is here that we see dragons, sea-beasts, earth-beasts, pregnant women clothed with celestial bodies, and probably the MOST debated part of all: the dreaded Mark of the Beast.

Did you know that there are almost 500 allusions to the Old Testament in the book of Revelation? ALMOST 500!!!! That number varies depending on the commentary, but still, ALMOST 500!!! That's A LOT of Old Testament allusions crammed into a 22 chapter book.

Now, we could take that statistic and log it away in our "Interesting Fun Facts about Revelation" folders and never think about it again, but if we did that, then we wouldn't be reading Revelation well. After a three week hiatus for the Christmas season, we're back at it again with our series through Revelation! This episode is a little different though. If you have ever heard the term "lukewarm Christian", you can thank the church in Laodicea for that! But what does it mean to be "lukewarm"? Whatever it is, it's pretty important, because Jesus says that being "lukewarm" is so gross, He wants to vomit it out of His mouth. So it stands to reason that we, as followers of Jesus, should make sure we are as far separated from whatever "lukewarm" is.

When I was a teenager, I assumed that there was only one way to read Revelation. And, in a way, there IS only one way to read Revelation, which is the same way we read the rest of the Bible: in it's proper context. But due to it's blend of prophetic, apocalyptic, and epistolary elements, Revelation feels a little more difficult to simply read "within it's context".

The church in Philadelphia is dealing with an issue that we all deal with: doubt. It makes sense, too! They've got people telling them that Jesus is a false Messiah, and if they don't turn back now, they'll be judged by God. I wouldn't blame anyone for struggling with doubt in that context. But what's really cool about Jesus' message to the church in Philadelphia is how Jesus handles their doubts. And I think His message to them is just as pertinent for those of us today who have ever wrestled with their own doubts.

As we've been going through the churches we have been picking apart each part of the structure of the churches! What's interesting is in that, sometimes, Jesus DOESN'T stick to the pattern. That's on purpose, because Jesus wants us to pay attention in these moments. This week, Jesus messes with the pattern. He's done it already with the church in Smyrna, and he does it with the church in Sardis, but in the exact opposite...

The Bible is full of stories of God's provision. From the parting of the Red Sea which allowed the Israelites to escape Egypt, to the exorcisms performed by Jesus in the Gospels, God is constantly providing, delivering, and strengthening His people.

We're back in the saddle again with Philippians, and today's passage is a doozy!

Have you ever bailed on something, and the reason you gave was about your preferences? For example, have you ever left a church because you thought the music was too loud? Have you ever refused to go to a club meeting because you just didn't have any friends there? Have you ever written a strongly worded email to a pastor/teacher/professor because they do something during their sermons that just really bugs you? Like clearing their throat or drinking from a water bottle?<...

You know what can prove to be difficult? Expositional teaching. By that I mean teaching from a Biblical text. It's extremely rewarding, but the process can be tough. It's a weighty thing to handle the Word of God.

One of the coolest things to me is when God puts that kind of weight on the heart of a teenager. We have a small group of youth in our youth group who have felt the call to try their hand at teaching, and one of them had the opportunity to teach at our youth group last night: Braden Shannon...

You know what's something that is necessary for life, but we don't often think about? Especially if coffee is your life?? Filters!

Filters are important. They capture the bad stuff and let only the good stuff go through. We use them in our coffee and our water.

Something else about filters is that we all have access to them... but some of us don't use them. And you wouldn't think that'd be a big deal UNLESS the filter we're talking about is the brain filter that keeps us from doing and saying dumb stuff.

Philippians is unique among Paul's letters in the New Testament. Whereas most of Paul's letters deal with correcting faulty teaching or rebuking those who are walking apart from Christ, Philippians is a letter dripping with joy and friendship. But sometimes we say these things without giving a second thought to the reality of what they truly mean. The truth is, the width and height and depth of the love of God is incomprehensible... and a little offensive.

Have you ever had the opportunity to share your faith with someone, but you chose not to because you might mess it up? Or you might make yourself look like an idiot? I have done it SO MANY TIMES! It's understandable, but it's also problematic, because when we do that, we are really showing that we don't trust that God can move EVEN IF we are a mess.

If you're like me, you KNOW that God is merciful, and you have no problem singing about it at church on Sunday. But sometimes, when you've dropped to your absolute lowest point, it's hard to BELIEVE God is merciful.

One of the doctrines that make Christianity unique is the doctrine of the Trinity. We worship a God who exists as three distinct persons, all having the same essence. In other words, the God we worship is 3 "who's", 1 "what".

This can be a difficult concept to comprehend! In fact, for some people it has proven to be so difficult and complicated, that they have rejected it altogether in favor of other explanations that are "easier" to understand. Three weeks ago we walked through the first part of expectations, which was the historical expectations. God showed the Israelites what would happen in history leading up to the Messiah's arrival. This week we did part 2, where we talked about what would happen when the Messiah arrived. Right around BC 586 Judah was conquered by Babylon because they broke the covenant and didn't listen to God's prophets. In judgment, God booted them from Israel and into Babylon.
